Hull Penetration Seals

MECO-Marine has developed the Sea-GARD, a double-face mechanical seal for Rudder posts and other hull penetrations for rotating shafts. The Sea-GARD design tolerates significant shaft runout and angular misalignment, providing leak-free service even with worn rudder stock bearings. The sacrificial seal faces provide long service life even in muddy, abrasive waters. Unlike packing seals or lip seals, the Sea-GARD does not slide against the shaft, and no shaft wear can occur. Sea-GARD seals are available fully-split for easy retrofit installation.

A typical installation is on Tug Kennebec, a harbor tug in Bath, Maine. The largest installed base of Sea-GARD seals is on offshore supply vessels, operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
